Egresswasm
Egress- to escape a situation;
Wasm- suffix denoting an action or result that didn’t happen

Returning to oil up the rustbelt & celebrating its triennial aperiodic assembling, the United States Escape Party – the only political party available while supplies last – takes a stand about being a brand by asking: “what are we still doing here? This organization was founded during election season 2016 to act as a facetious, but sincere warning on a potential failure of the American promise, and now, good grief, what’s it take to get things in motion these days? What’s up with this failure to budge?” And so, we dive into the ruins of our doin’s with:

Thirteen new issues of Egresswasm – the official organ of the United States Escape Party by a rogue’s gallery of language rompers, visual villains, and disorderly geniuses: Aaron Walker, Bailey Romaine, Breanne Trammell, Chris Reeves, Elana Adler, Hanna M. Owens, Jenn Smith, Jennifer Chan, Lauren Sudbrink, Liz Cambron, Shir Ende

Jeff Young and Paul Pinto, Patriots / Ben Sloan / yvette nepper

This is a good one. We are proud to present for you three unique and amazing performances, all under one bill.

Ben Sloan // is a Cincinnati-based percussionist, sound-maker, and educator with the MYCincinnati Youth Orchestra. In 2017 Ben completed the construction of the Percussion Park, a collection of colorful outdoor percussion instruments located in East Price Hill. He is currently playing with A Delicate Motor and was recently featured as The National's Homecoming Festival's 2018 Artist In Residence. In the past, Ben has performed with artists such as WHY?, The National, Lazy Heart, Elese Daniel, Napoleon Maddox, and Nate Brenner. Presently, Sloan is focused inward as he develops solo material in preparation for the PEOPLE Residency and Festival in Berlin later this summer. Ben finds little to no comfort writing bios, and thanks you if you've made it this far.

yvette nepper // lives and writes in the city she loves, Cincinnati, Ohio.

JEFF YOUNG AND PAUL PINTO, PATRIOTS, RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE ON A PLATFORM OF SWIFT AND RIGHTEOUS IMMIGRATION REFORM, LOTS OF JOBS, AND A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT: AN OPERA BY PAUL PINTO AND JEFFREY YOUNG // Created in 2011 as a parody of contemporary politics and politicians, this half-hour piece of music-theatre has become an all-too-real reflection of today's bad behavior surrounding issues of immigration and national identity. Young and Pinto collaboratively created the text, music, and staging, scoring the piece for their own voices, violin, percussion, a turntable, samples, and lots of cardboard boxes. In …Patriots…, instrumental music alternates with sung and spoken words, zany and humorous topical quips alternate with personal, pointed critiques of the political zeitgeist, fully notated sections merge into structured musical and textual improvisations, and tonal harmonies mix with startling, untraditional musical effects.

A Dance Between Dana Franklin & Millie-Christine [Napoleon Maddox, Eddy Kwon, Mike Fleisch]

A Dance Between Dana Franklin and Millie-Christine:

Choreography illustrated, played and made alive by:
Napoleon Maddox - poetry, vocals & sound collage
Eddy Kwon - violin
Mike Fleisch - live illustration

This performance will merge the real lives of Millie-Christine McKoy (subjects of Napoleon Maddox's Feb 22 -24, CAC show Twice the First Time) with Octavia Butler's science fiction character, Dana, from the novel ‘Kindred.’ This is one of a series of works in progress. Maddox looks at multiple ways to rediscover and draw strength from the story of his great-grand aunts, Millie-Christine. With this performance he summons them in the way a character in peril called for Dana to cross space in time to save his life.

-

About Millie-Christine McKoy // Born into slavery in 1851, conjoined twins Millie-Christine lived an extraordinary life jumping between autonomy and captivity, emancipation and exploitation. While Millie-Christine were inspected and labeled sideshow freaks, they defiantly self-identified as "beautifully and wonderfully made.”

About Dana Franklin from ‘Kindred’ // A courageous, compassionate, and independent African-American woman writer who celebrates her twenty-sixth birthday in 1976. She is the protagonist and the narrator of the story. She is forced to travel through time and space to a slave plantation in antebellum Maryland. On the plantation, she must learn to make hard compromises to survive as a slave and to ensure her existence in her own time
