Traffic and Swap: A Poetic Exchange

  • Chase Public 2868 Colerain Avenue Cincinnati, OH, 45225 United States (map)

Six poets have prepared appx. 10 minutes worth of material, and those same six poets will be performing appx. 10 minutes of material - but not their own work.  This literary line up’s work has been collected, and randomly re-distributed.  Nobody knows who’s work they will be reading, nobody knows who will be reading their work.   After all the poets have read - the attribution will be revealed.  This isan experiment in the inherent context in the structure of poetry readings.  What does it do to the audience to not be certain of authorship?  How does removing the poet from the content affect it?  How does the aesthetic and identity of the reader of the work inform its meaning to an audience?  What does it do to the reader to take extra care to represent work not their own? What does it do to the poet to hear their work presented by another?

The poets:

Sidney Cherie Hilley
Bucky Ignatius
Kendall Jolley
Jon Massey
Sam McCormick
Linwood Rumney
